INTERNATIONALIZATION AND EQUITY IN THE ROMANIAN HIGHER EDUCATION SYSTEM INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE
On the 14th and 15th of November 2013, the Executive Agency for Higher Education, Research, Development and Innovation Funding (UEFISCDI) together with the UNESCO department of the National School of Political Studies and Public Administration is organizing the International Conference entitled: “Internationalization and Equity in the Romanian Higher Education System”.
The event will gather national and international experts in the field of equity and internationalization, representatives of the European Commission, the International Association of Universities (IAU), the Ministry of National Education (MEN), the National Council for Higher Education Funding (CNFIS), the Romanian Agency for Quality Assurance in Higher Education (ARACIS), student organizations and universities of Romania. Starting from the analysis done by the international team of experts and the study visits reports from the visits conducted in nine Romanian universities, both activities performed during the Higher Education Evidence Based Policy Making: a necessary premise for progress in Romania project, the participants will debate upon the way in which public policies regarding equity and internationalization of education are achieving their objectives at the national and institutional level. Furthermore, the discussion will cover the way in which higher education actors can collaborate in order to improve existing policies in equity and internationalization and to better suit the needs of the academic environment.
The first day of the conference will cover the equity and social cohesion thematic in Romanian higher education. Jamil Salmi, the former coordinator of the tertiary education programme of the World Bank, will present the results of the analysis performed at the national level, participants debating in regard to the findings. On the second day of the conference, the discussions will focus on the internationalization of education, Eva Egron-Polak, the General Secretary of the International Association of Universities (IAU), presenting the primary elements of the analysis performed at the national and institutional level regarding the topic.
